Eleven Bedroom Lights for Softer Evenings

Dimmers, reading arms and one low glow: the three layers that turn a bedroom into a place you actually unwind.

Bedroom lighting should wind you down, not wake you up. Aim for three levels: a soft overhead on a dimmer, a reading light at each side of the bed and one low glow, like a salt lamp or a candle-style bulb.

Match the bulb to the job. Warm 2700K bulbs flatter skin and bedding; a focused swing-arm lamp keeps pages lit without lighting up your partner. Hang pendants low over nightstands to free the tabletop.

The rule of thumb: no single bright source. Spread small pools of warm light and the whole room feels instantly calmer.
