Bringing Natural Textures Into Your Home

Bringing Natural Textures Into Your Home

Leafy plants, raw wood and sun-washed linen: small natural touches that make every room feel calmer and more alive.

Bringing the outdoors in is the simplest way to make a house feel alive. Start with one corner: a tall leafy plant beside the reading chair, a bowl of fresh citrus on the table, a vase of eucalyptus stems on the sill.

Layer natural textures next. Linen cushions, a jute rug, a rattan tray and a chunk of raw wood each add warmth that flat, synthetic surfaces never can. Keep the palette sun-baked: clay, sage, oat and stone.

Three easy starting points

  • Swap one set of curtains for sheer linen to soften the daylight.
  • Group plants in odd numbers at different heights for a collected look.
  • Display something found: driftwood, pebbles, a branch of dried grasses.

Natural elements ask for almost no upkeep and they forgive clutter, which is exactly why they suit real, lived-in homes.
